The carbon cycle is the cycle of carbon usage in which energy flows throughout the ecosystem.  Ultimately all carbon compounds are decomposed  and as CO2 plants will then use the carbon.

-in fat tissue of plants -in the air by respiration -in water by respiration -in herbivores that eat the plants -incarnivores by eating herbivores -as CO2
